Agilent 1100 HPLC System

There is an incredibly strong demand for Agilent 1100 systems on the used market. This is actually a significant drawback as an equivalent Waters system is significantly cheaper due to supply and demand.

But perhaps you are in love with the 1100 series? It seems to be a trend. On the used market there are far fewer used HPLC systems from Agilent's (at the time HP) earlier models when compared to Waters HPLC systems of an equivalent age. Although we lack hard data, it certainly seems that Agilent has come on strong in the past decade possibly to Waters demise. Stackable, compact and modular, the Agilent 1100 series saves bench space and makes shipping modules much more manageable. In addition it makes altering the configuration simpler. For example an isocratic pump could be easily swapped out for a gradient one, this is non-trivial with Water's Alliance series. Agilent's Chemstation software, while a bit of a pain to install does not utilize "key disks" as Waters does. Nearly every vendor offering software stopped using key disks 20 years ago as they only end up locking out paying customers when the hard drive inevitable fails. Worst yet they act as nothing more then a speed bump for software pirates. Some companies even have/had the nerve to require customers to pay to have the software they just "bought" reinstalled for them due to the disabling "feature" of the keydisk. This situation will not play out with Agilent's Chemstation.

There are a large number of Agilent 1100 modules and no used instrument vendor will have more then a fraction of them. While hostilities between competitors are omnipresent in every business, 2H2 is lucky to have good relations with several direct competitors. By working together rather then squabbling over crumbs from Agilent & Waters dinner table, our colleagues and our company leap ahead together. We are able to offer a wide variety of 1100 systems at prices xenophobic used vendors cannot.

At one point all of our prices were posted online. Since the subprime fiasco of 2007 we have had an increasingly difficult time keeping our online prices up to date with the number of currencies that we normally quote in. Worse yet (for us) the prices of many instruments are in a state of flux. At this time(June 2010) we are in a buyer's market, this is an excellent time to buy used instrumentation with prices approximately 10-15% lower then in 2007. Unfortunately we have had to switch from an online pricing setup to a quote-on-request one.
